7th class 7-22-10

This class was about flash. I need to add to Christmas list for a external flash! He showed us many things flash is good for and how the cool gadgets work. You can do ALOT with flash!

Another fun fact I learned tonight was why we see red eyes in pictures. To much flash directly on the eyes. What you need to do not to have red eyes in your photos is get your flash high so it hits the subjects eyes in a different way.

This class was interesting but not as much as last class. We did look through some pictures and that was fun. SOOO next week is my last class. I have learned alot. I am glad I took the class. I think I will be able to take better pictures in the future.

Some other photos I have taken for class

These pictures show depth of field. I think I did ok maybe could have done a little better but I think I know what I am doing. Would have never been able to do this or know how to before I took the class. Woo Hoo!

6th class 7-15-10

This class we studied composition. It was a neat class because we looked at alot of different pictures and pointed out what was good in some and what was bad on others.

The best way to study composition is to study it by looking at all types of pictures. Either in art stores, galleries, or even in magazines.
The rule of Thirds was also a topic in class tonight. What is this??? Well it forces your eye to move to the spot of interest by leading lines. It establishes points of power. You need a center of interest.

I loved looking at all the photos in class. I now find my self looking at pictures other people have taken and thinking man that is really exposed. Or man than is really over exposed. OH NO I am turning into a photo geek. HAHA It is fun!

2nd field trip

This field trip was to the UT gardens which is where I have taken pictures before. I missed this trip as I had family in town and it was lake day!!

5th class

I missed this class and was told they talked about tripods. Which I have one and have never used. Oh well!!!

4th class 7-1-10

This class we talked about White Balance as well as the other modes to shoot in. He says we can now shoot in any of the modes. When I say modes I mean not just in Manuel. We can now use the other buttons such as the P (program), A (aperture), and S (shutter). Little confusing and not sure about all that yet. But I will practice. Always Shoot-Evaluate-Adjust and -Reshoot and till you get what you like. Yeah sounds easy but so much work!

White Balance was explained alot tonight such as if you have weird lighting change your white balance. Sometimes you can get weird colors in your pictures and if you adjust the white balance that will help alot!

This class was interesting because now we can use all the buttons on our camera not that we couldn't before but he was only wanting us to shoot in manual now we have lots of choices.

First Field Trip Saturday June 26th

This was a fun field trip even though we had to be there before 7:30 it was worth it in the long run. I am going to post some of my favorite pictures. I was sooo happy to learn how to freeze and blur water. I really enjoyed walking around with several classmates and just talking about what we should do with certain pictures it really helped alot!
Hope you enjoy! I took over 300 pictures and I will post just a few of my favorites. The location was downtown Knoxville.

3rd class June 24th

So this class was a review at first and then we started flying threw stuff. The class goes so fast and we have sooo much to cover. The teacher always asks if anyone has question which I normally do but no way is my hand going up. NO NO!! I save all my questions for after class! Yep thats me.

We talked alot about white balance in class then moved onto to computer things which I was wishing at that moment in time I had Cat's mind or her next to me! I think I know what I am suppose to do but still not 100% sure. He was basically showing us how to send our first shooting assignment to him.
I stayed after class for an hour to ask my questions I had about the shooting assignment. I was so relieved to know that several other classmates were lost just like me. WOO HOO I am not the only dummy in the class.
After talking with him I took some pictures correct but not all which was fine as long as I got some correct. I felt a little better after class.

I am really looking forward to Saturday during our first field trip to learn lots more and actually practice with other classmates.
I have posted three pictures that I got correct. You can tell they have diffent appertures and shutter speeds by how one is much brighter than the other.

2nd class June 17, 2010

This class was a little better as far as knowing a few things such as my shutter speeds and apertures.
We reviewed what we did the week before and asked questions which I didn't of course as I would have sounded dumb!
He talked about how the camera works and showed us slides on how the camera works.
We talked more in depth about shutter speeds, apertures, shallow depth of field, and great depth of field.

Now to the hard part. We had a shooting assignment to take a bunch of pictures.
*the first set of pictures were 5 shots showing under and over exposures. I actually did 10 all together at different shutter speeds and different apertures.
* the next were to take two different pictures of moving objects to freeze and blurr the object.
* last were two different pictures to show great depth of filed and shallow depth of field.
This might seem easy but to me was VERY stressful. Once again this was suppose to be fun!!!!
This week we are going to learn how to send these pictures to him in a certain format which I hope is easy. As you know for me it more than likely will be hard and stressful. Cat keep your phone handy this next week I will be calling you as my helper!!

Also Saturday we are doing our 1st field trip downtown to take pictures. I am looking forward to learning ALOT that day!
Pictures to follow very soon.

First Class Thursday June 10th.

I was so excited to start the first class but was very uneasy on what to expect. It was a relief once class started that I was not the only one that didn't know how to work my camera.

I learned alot of things NOT to do with my camera such as don't shoot in the Auto mode! We were told to scratch off the Auto green button because we would never use it again! This really scared me as that is what I use most of the time. Manuel mode is what we will be using from now on! Also the correct way to hold your camera which is.... left hand under the lens with palm up! Try it and I bet it feels weird as you more than likely don't hold it that way!

We watched a short video on The 6 Lies or Photography. Very cute and funny! We talked alot about aperture and shutter speeds. I also have to learn them all and we are going to get quizzed next week and I thought this was going to be a breeze WRONG!!!!
We also talked about the light meter on our cameras. So much to learn!

Now to study those apertures and shutter speeds for next week and I thought this was going to be a FUN class!!!
